Healthy Snack Options
When do you get the munchies? 10 am, 2 pm, right before bed? When the hunger horrors take over at work, it can be easy to head to the vending machine for a bag of chips or a candy bar. Unfortunately, most vending machine options aren’t great for your health and well being. Instead, try some of these healthy snack options.
Nuts and Dried Berries
Prepackaged trail mix is often full of added sugar and preservatives. Instead, make your own with healthy nuts and dried fruit or berries. Resist the temptation to add a sugary cereal or chocolate chunks. You can keep a Ziploc bag of this in your desk for healthy munching any time of day.
I know, it sounds kind of dry and gross, but it doesn’t have to be. Air Air-pope popcorn, toss it in a gallon size Ziploc with a pinch of salt, some cinnamon and a bit of cayenne pepper. This tasty treat will store well in your desk and leave you satisfied.
This legume is packed with protein and most commonly known for being the main ingredient in hummus. You can also roast them with olive oil, salt and, cayenne pepper to create a crunchy treat. Again, these store and travel easily to fend off hunger pangs on the go.
Dried fruit certainly stores better than the fresh kind. One word of caution – look for ones that don’t have added sugar or sulfites to maximize the health benefits of these tasty fruit chunks. Dried fruit also mixes well with nuts or seeds to make a tasty treat you can eat by the handful.
